      Around here, they are building circles everywhere; they are better than four-way stops, but then, so would be a punch in the face with broken glass. They are vastly more expensive than red lights and take months to build. Anyone who knows anything about our state government will realize that the entire phenomenon must be the result of a bribe. I would predict that in a further thirty years they will all have been torn out, except that there will be no money to do that.

        My current area (SF peninsula) they are sticking little circles in intersections that have stop signs already and it's just extra painful but the denizens are such awful citizens that I can almost not blame the city for punitive street design. Almost.

        Back in Massachusetts and New England in general there are many that work so well. They're larger, and I can't say how much or when the roads were fitted out with them. They do a much better job of regulating flow that I've seen.
